We hope that our church body will continue in breakout style discussion over the phone and in other creative ways as well. Eldon has provided small group questions to facilitate the post sermon discussions. Even though we have to keep our social distance, we sincerely hope that we can be spiritually near to one another.
- What two things did Eldon want us to hold on to, and why? How do you think it relates to the overall topic and specifically to the Rabbi’s re-configuring of the Day of Atonement after the destruction of the Temple?
- As Eldon said, the Jewish high priest typically dressed in a formal robe, golden crown, colorful sash, and a decorated breastplate; but on the Day of Atonement he would wear a simple white linen garment. As you read Leviticus 16:4, in what ways can our eyes be opened to see Jesus in these instructions?
- Read Hebrews 9:24-28. How many differences between the Day of Atonement and the sacrifice of Christ can you find? In what ways is the finished work of Christ on the cross an incredible improvement over the law?
Suggested Extra Bible Reading during the week: Leviticus 16, Hebrews 4:14 – 5:3, Hebrews 7:23-27, Hebrews 9:6-14 & 24-28
