BELIEFS

We Believe in one God

eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2

We believe in the deity of Christ

in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal, imminent return in power and glory.

Isaiah 7:14; John 14:11; Romans 8:34; Philippians 2:5-11; Hebrews 4:15; Revelation 19:11-16.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit

by whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is guided, instructed and empowered to serve and live a godly life in the present evil world.

John 16:7-8; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 1:13-14.

We believe the Bible

consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, to be the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God written.

2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21.

We believe that God created

the heavens and the earth in six days and that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but in Adam’s sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and that man is totally depraved, and of himself unable to remedy his lost condition.

Genesis 1:1, 26; Exodus 20:11; Psalm 51:5; Romans 3:22-23, 5:12; Ephesians 2:13.

We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection

provides the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and such as receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit, and begin a personal relationship with God through Christ Jesus.

John 1:12-13, 14:6; Romans 8:34; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4.

We believe that at the time of conversion

each new believer is divinely marked with the Holy Spirit and therefore preserved until the day of redemption. This is the guarantee of the Christian’s security in Christ and a basis for assurance of salvation.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22; Ephesians 1:13, 4:30.

We believe that angels

were created by God before the earth was formed for the purpose of carrying out the will of God such as delivery of messages, ministry to the saints, and worshipping God. They are very powerful, organized, numerous, and immortal.

Job 38:6-7; Matthew 26:53; Luke 2:13-14; 20:36; Hebrews 1:14, 12:22; 2 Peter 2:11; Jude 6.

We believe that satan

is a fallen angel, the author of all sin, the enemy of God, and the active deceiver of mankind, and that he shall be eternally punished in the lake of fire.

Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:10-19; Matthew 4:2-11; John 8:44; Revelation 20:10.

We believe in the resurrection

of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of eternal life in heaven, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of eternal damnation in hell.

Matthew 25:46; John 5:28-29; Revelation 20:11-15.

We believe that God created marriage

to be a life-long, covenantal union between one man and one woman for the purposes of intimate companionship, raising children, and revealing the spiritual truth of the relationship between Christ and His church.

Genesis 1:28, 2:24; Psalm 128; Proverbs 18:22; Malachi 2:15; Matthew 19:5-6; Ephesians 5:31-33.

We believe that the function of local church

is (1) to glorify and serve God, (2) to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to the world, (3) to produce mature followers of Christ, (4) to administer the ordinances of baptism and communion to believers (5) to care for its own members (6) to do good deeds in the world, and (7) to demonstrate and encourage the power of prayer.

Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15; Acts 2:42-47; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Ephesians 4:11-16; 5:17-19; Galatians 6:10; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Titus 3:14.

We believe in the spiritual unity

of all true believers in Christ.

John 17:11; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 4:3.

VALUES

We, the leadership and membership of Walnut Community Bible Church, embrace these core values as being essential to the realization of our vision and purpose as a church. We accept, therefore, the responsibility to conduct our lives and the life of our church according to them, and will take seriously the responsibility to hold one another accountable to do so.

BIBLE CENTERED TEACHING AND PREACHING

We are committed to the clear and accurate communication of God’s Word in a way that ministers grace and acts as a catalyst for transformation in the lives of individuals and the church.

The Lordship of Jesus Christ

We believe in Jesus Christ as the one and only Son of God as well as our only pathway to salvation. We are committed to being people who will daily seek to be more like Him, committed to bringing his Lordship to bear on every aspect of our daily lives, and committed to protecting the image and name of Jesus Christ wherever our daily lives lead us.

Prayer

We believe that God desires His people to pray and that He hears and answers prayer. Therefore, the ministries and activities of this church will be characterized by a reliance on prayer in their conception, planning, and execution.

People

We value what God values—the souls of human beings. Beginning in our community and stretching to the far reaches of the world, we will stress through our words and our works the importance of evangelism and the Great Commission. Through our compassionate support of world missions we will work to provide for the physical needs of people with the goal of introducing them to Christ and salvation.

Godly Leadership

We believe that the church needs godly leadership to act as examples to all and trainers and mentors for others aspiring to leadership. We will hold our leaders accountable to their task.

Fellowship

We believe that the Spirit-filled fellowship, coming together as one, acts as an encouraging, uplifting, and necessary family of faith. We believe the church to be the primary source of accountability of its members as the vehicle for sharing and meeting the needs of its members.

HISTORY

Walnut Community Bible Church was formed by a small group of born-again believers to whom The LORD had given the desire for a Bible-preaching church to be planted in Walnut. Originally a small group Bible study, WCBC was officially established as a church on May 16, 1982. The first service was held in the basement meeting room of the local bank. Howard Hoffman, Associate Pastor of the Princeton Bible Church, served as our Pastor that day and continued to do so for about five years. Many thanks to PBC for “loaning” Pastor Howard to our church in those early years.

In April 1984, we moved to the building that had been the bowling alley, which had been recently purchased by Jody Davis for his Auto Clinic. Using just the front third of the building, this facility met our needs for about 3-1/2 years until growth caused us to look for a larger place to meet. The LORD led us to the former Steele and Haurberg Construction office building on the edge of Walnut, which had recently been purchased by a fertilizer company that had no need to use the front part of the building. This facility offered ample space for Sunday School rooms and large worship area. God continued to bless WCBC and we began to feel the need for more room.

In the spring of 1991, just as we began to make plans to accommodate the growth, a storm blew the roof off our meeting place. It was necessary for us to meet at the Walnut Grade School cafeteria for several weeks while we once again began looking for a place to worship together. In this search, the LORD led us to our current facility, the former Homeway office building, then owned by Tony and Josey Zueger. The location is excellent, near the center of town, and this building provided more room than we could imagine using. God’s blessing was evident and we immediately began the work needed to make this facility fit our needs. Our first service held here was on April 28, 1991. We were able, by God’s grace and because of His generous supply, to purchase the building DEBT FREE in the spring of 1996. Since then, again because of God’s grace and supply, we have made significant improvements, including the roof and much of the siding, and numerous interior alterations, including adding a kitchen and office space, without incurring any debt.

God’s blessing has been poured out abundantly in the past few years. He has continued to grow this ministry in various ways. Praises be to Jesus Christ, our LORD and Savior! And, a special “Thank you!” to those few who faithfully followed His leading back in 1982!
