Sabbath (1) Discussion Questions: 5-17-2020

We hope that our church body will continue in breakout style discussion over the phone and in other creative ways as well.  Eldon has provided small group questions to facilitate the post sermon discussions. Even though we have to keep our social distance, we sincerely hope that we can be spiritually near to one another.

  1. Sabbath is a concept that Christians have understood in various ways through the centuries.  What have you been taught or understood in the past?  Have your views changed over time?
  2. In the garden, Adam and Eve had responsibilities that were a perfect joy, but with the curse came wearisome labor.  Why do we so readily identify ourselves with the cursed labor (e.g. I’m a farmer) instead of the Creator?  What is the biggest danger in that?
  3. Why do you think it was so tempting for the Israelites to disregard the Sabbath?

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29
